TILE & LORE began with a love of mahjong—and the search for a set that felt personal.

Our founder enjoys playing mahjong, but finding the right set proved surprisingly difficult. Many of the sets available had a familiar, traditional look. Others offered a fresh approach, but the choice of styles still felt limited. Finding something distinctive—something to feel excited about bringing to the table—was harder than expected.

That search became the starting point for TILE & LORE: a desire to bring more choice and personality to a game our founder already loved.

A familiar game. A little more you.

The colors on the table, the music in the background, the friends we invite—all help shape the feeling of an evening. We believe a mahjong set can be part of that feeling, too.

We create original tile sets for American mahjong, with collections inspired by different moods. A palette might suggest a bright afternoon, a quiet season, or an evening that carries on long after everyone planned to leave.

Our hope is that you find a set that feels at home with your taste, your space, and the way you like to gather.

Our designs take their cues from mahjong’s traditional visual language, including the slender, linear forms of Bams (Bamboo) and the rounded shapes of Dots (Circles). These familiar elements are part of what makes mahjong recognizable, and we want to honor them as we explore new possibilities.

Through color, illustration, and decorative details, we give those familiar forms a different personality in each collection. Our aim is to balance creative expression with clarity, so the tiles feel distinctive while keeping a connection to the game we love.

Above all, we want to create sets you look forward to bringing out and playing with, again and again.
